Mercedes-AMG GT 53 EV in Thailand — Import to Order, 544 hp

The entry car in Mercedes-AMG's new electric GT 4-Door range: 544 horsepower, 800 Nm, and a 106 kWh 800-volt battery that takes 600 kW and puts back 534 km in ten minutes. German list €115,430; we import it to order and quote it landed in Thailand.

The GT 53 is the way into Mercedes-AMG's new electric GT 4-Door range, and its German list price of €115,430, as of August 2026, sets the number the GT 55 and GT 63 above it will be judged against. That price includes German VAT and is not a guide to what the car costs in Thailand: an imported EV of this size carries duty, excise and VAT worth calculating properly rather than estimating. We import this car to order and quote it landed.

Two synchronous motors, one per axle, make 400 kW — 544 horsepower — and 800 Nm together, with 270 kW available continuously. The front motor works as a boost and disengages through a Disconnect Unit under light load, so the car runs on the rear axle alone when the front one is not earning its keep. Drive goes through AMG Performance 4MATIC+ and a two-speed transmission geared 11:1 and 5:1, the short ratio for standing starts and city work, the tall one for motorway range. 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.5 seconds on Mercedes' rollout measure and 3.9 seconds without it. Top speed is limited to 230 km/h, or 250 km/h with the AMG Driver's Package.

The battery is the more interesting part. 106 kWh usable at 800 volts, built from 2,660 cylindrical cells in 18 modules, each cell bathed in a non-conductive oil rather than cooled through a plate. That is what allows 600 kW on DC: ten minutes puts back 534 km of WLTP range, and 10 to 80 percent takes 11 minutes. Full range is 682 to 809 km depending on specification. AC charging is capped at 11 kW, and the car drops to 400-volt mode by itself where 800-volt chargers are thin on the ground — which is still most of Thailand today.

The body is 5,094 mm long on a 3,040 mm wheelbase and weighs 2,375 kg, yet sits 4 cm lower than the car it replaces despite a battery in the floor. Drag is 0.21 across a 2.44 m² frontal area. An active AEROKINETICS rear spoiler is standard and stays retracted below 150 km/h; a matching rear diffuser is optional and works the other way, extending the tail to cut drag on long runs. AMG RIDE CONTROL air springs with adaptive damping and rear torque vectoring handle the rest. There are 415 liters behind the rear seats and 41 more under the hood.

Inside, a 14-inch central screen is angled toward the driver, the SKY CONTROL glass roof darkens in individually switched segments, and a Sound Slider moves the cabin between Powerful, Balanced and Minimal. The AMGFORCE Sport+ program simulates gear changes against a digitized recording of the 3.0-liter inline-six from the old E 53 Coupé, captured at 16 microphone positions. Dr Stefan Weckbach, who chairs Mercedes-AMG, calls the new GT 4-Door a statement.
