The crankshaft is flat-plane. AMG's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 normally runs a cross-plane crank, and rebuilding it changed the firing order, evened out how the turbochargers are fed, and took the engine to 730 horsepower at 6,700 to 6,900 rpm.

Torque is 800 Nm from 2,000 to 6,000 rpm, through a seven-speed dual-clutch. 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.2 seconds, 200 km/h arrives in under 9.0 seconds, and top speed is 325 km/h. The Nordschleife lap stands at 6:43.616 over the 20.6 km configuration.

Almost none of the bodywork carries over. The front gets a larger grille and a deep front diffuser, and the rear a two-tier adjustable wing over a revised diffuser and four exhaust outlets.

The suspension was retuned to hold the body flat through a corner, and the wheels are lightweight, 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear, on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires in 285/35 R19 and 335/30 R20. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard rather than optional.

The AMG GT coupe is out of production, and the Black Series was the last and hardest version of it.
