BMW M Edition 100 Jahre Nürburgring: six M cars, M2 to M5 Touring, in a green made for the centenary

The Nürburgring opened on 18 June 1927, and BMW M is marking the centenary a year early. The Edition 100 Jahre Nürburgring, announced on 10 September 2026, covers six cars — BMW M2, M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupé, M5 Sedan and M5 Touring — and three BMW Motorrad motorcycles, all in a paint BMW calls historical Nürburgring Green, developed for this edition and offered on nothing else. Frank van Meel, who runs BMW M GmbH, calls the circuit a second home for the division; every M production car is tested there.

The green is the edition. Black Sapphire metallic is the alternative, but the green is the point. On top of it sit a “100 Years” logo, “Nürburgring since 1927” lettering and the silhouette of the circuit, placed on the front doors, C-pillars and rear quarters, with stripes across the roof in an edition-only pattern — over the M carbon roof on the M2, M3 Sedan, M4 Coupé and M5 Sedan, over the steel roof on the two Tourings. The kidney frame and the wheels pick up the green: Styling 826 M on the M3 and M4, Styling 951 M on the M5, Styling 930 M in gloss black on the M2. Order a Black Sapphire car and the green accents stay.

Inside, the cabin is black with green and white contrast stitching. The six-cylinder cars get an M Alcantara steering wheel with a 12 o’clock marker in the same colors; the M5s get an M steering wheel with the same signature. The front headrests carry the Nordschleife embroidered in black — in green on the M2, which also comes with M carbon bucket seats as standard.

Mechanically nothing changes. The M2 makes 480 horsepower, the M3 and M4 Competition make 530 horsepower and 650 Nm, and the M5 pairs its twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor for 727 horsepower and 1,000 Nm. What is new underneath the six-cylinder cars is BMW M Ignite, a pre-chamber ignition system patented by BMW and fitted to M2, M3 and M4 engines since mid-2026. It cuts consumption under sustained high load — more laps on a tank at a track day — and meets Euro 7 with no loss of output.

Orders for the M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupé, M5 Sedan and M5 Touring opened in September 2026; the M2 follows around the turn of the year, and its specification is still listed as preliminary. BMW has not published a price, and unlike the three motorcycles, which are capped at 100 each, it has not published a production number for the cars.
