The 765LT is the hardest version of the 720S, and the current holder of McLaren's Longtail badge — a line that runs back through the 675LT to the F1 GTR.

Most of the bodywork is exposed carbon fiber, and all of it works. The front bumper carries side aerodynamic fins that feed into extended side skirts, and the enlarged active rear wing doubles as an airbrake, tilting up under hard braking to add 25 percent more rear downforce while settling the chassis. The wheels are forged and held by titanium bolts, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R, and the carbon-ceramic brakes use calipers taken from the Senna.

The quad exhaust exits through the top of the rear deck in titanium, 40 percent lighter than steel, and it puts the V8 directly into the cabin. That engine is the 4.0-liter twin-turbo, revised with aluminum pistons, the Senna's triple-layer head gasket and the 720S high-flow fuel pump, making 765 horsepower and 800 Nm. The seven-speed dual-clutch shifts 15 percent faster than the 720S — the quickest gearbox McLaren has put in a Super Series car.

Weight is where the car is won. McLaren removed 80 kg relative to the 720S for a dry weight of 1,229 kg and 622 horsepower per ton. 0 to 100 km/h takes 2.8 seconds, 200 km/h takes 7.0 seconds, 300 km/h takes 18.0 seconds, and the quarter mile passes in under 10 seconds. Top speed is limited to 330 km/h.

The cabin is stripped to Alcantara and bare carbon weave, with the Senna's low carbon fiber racing seats. This car is specified in all black throughout.
