Overview
Porsche built 2,500 911 Dakars and finished production in November 2024. Its successor will be a hybrid, which makes this the only combustion-only version there will be.
It stands 50 mm higher than a Carrera S. The rotary dial on the steering wheel adds another 30 mm in High Level, and that setting stays available up to 170 km/h. Two drive modes are specific to the car: Off-road for grip on rough ground, Rallye for a rearward torque bias and controlled slides on loose surfaces.
The hardware is genuine. Forged wheels — 19-inch front, 20-inch rear — carry Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires with 9 mm treads, and there are stainless steel skid plates underneath, mesh over the front intakes, widened arches and red aluminum towing eyes. Porsche tested prototypes over 500,000 km, more than 10,000 of them off-road across dunes and ice.
Weight was still controlled: a fixed rear wing in place of the adaptive spoiler, the GT3's carbon fiber hood with integrated vents, thinner glass and full bucket seats in Race-Tex.
The engine is the Carrera 4 GTS 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six, 480 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 570 Nm from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm, through an eight-speed PDK to all-wheel drive. 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.4 seconds. Top speed is held to 240 km/h by the all-terrain tires rather than the engine.
